Questions:
In your (art) practice, how do you utilize web.20 tools?
Web 2.0 has really allowed me to interact with users on a more personal bases. Web 2.0 has given users a profile across the Internet and is allowing us to sync different platforms in one campaign.
Have these been a push forward for you in you work, or do you see them as merely a modern necessity or formality? How do you feel this trend will evolve.
To some it is a trend but to the newer generations it is a way of life. Your web persona is becoming more and more of a true reflection of who you ate or who you want to be. Clients need to realize that don’t just get a fan page because everyones doing it. Get a fan page to connect to your users and become an ambassdor of your brand in a whole new world.
What kinds of internet trends (perhaps related to your field) have you seen come to pass in your time observing them.
Widgets, blogs, and augmented reality. Widgets are basically useless to common Internet users. Desktop widgets. How often do we use them? Hardly. Unless it’s the weather, time, date or a calculator. Blogs. Why does a regular person need it anymore? They don’t. We have facebook and Twitter to let the world know what think is cool or how our day is going. Augmented reality. How many people actually do that more than once? It’s a gimmick. Flashy with no real means.
What kinds of trends on the web, be it 2.0 or otherwise, do you see as a hindrance to artists/people in your field?
Anything that let’s people create a rip off of what we take months to create. We are professionals. They are amateurs or wannabe’s. They need to realize your not a designer, model, or artist because apple let you create something in 30 seconds.
Although the trend of publishing one’s artwork on the web/create net.art, makes for ease of distribution, removing the formalities of a gallery setting/location, do you think the net has become flooded with mediocre artwork/artists, making legitimacy on the web (as an artist) more difficult.
The cream always rises to the top. Real recognizes real and will always and I say always be seen for what and who they are. If your good you’ll be recognized as legit. If your bad you’ll be recognized as shit.
Having observed these kinds of web trends over the last few years, where do feel they are headed, and what would you like to see?
Connection. How can we connect with the world in ways we have never done before.
What advice, in regards to internet trends/tools would you give to someone just beginning to advance in your field
Always stay current. Be the first to know. The first to capitlize on it. The first to make it great. If your not just make sure it’s better than the first guy because nobody wants to see a redo of yesterday’s news.
